Poland Orders Four S-70i Black Hawks for Special Forces

POLANDS MINISTRY of National Defence has ordered four Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawks for the Polish Air Force.  A contract for the helicopters was signed yesterday, January 25, at Sikorsky subsidiary PZL Mielec’s factory in Mielec, Poland, in the presence of Polish Prime Miniater Mateusz Morawieckiego and the head of the Ministry of Defence, Mariusz Blaszczak.

Delivery of all four is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.  The new Black Hawks will be used to support Polish Special Operations forces.  The contract also includes an extensive logistics and training package.  The entire contract is valued at 683.4 million Polish Zloty (£137.69 million), with the cost for each helicopter being around 75 million (£15.12 million), including equipment.  The MOD has not disclosed details of the equipment fit, which it says is classified.

The new helicopters are to be operated by the Polish Air Force’s 7 Eskadra Dzialan Specjalncy at 33 Baza Lotnictwa Transportowego Powidz.  The unit currently operates a fleet of Mi-17 and Mi-17-1V helicopters.
