BOEING WAS awarded a US Naval Air Systems Command contract today, January 25, for the production and delivery of 19 P-8A Poseidon aircraft for Norway, the UK and the USA. The deal, valued at $2,458,707,154, is a modification to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee contract and covers ten aircraft for the US Navy under fiscal year 2019 procurement, plus Foreign Military Sales of five for the Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) and four for the UK Royal Air Force (RAF).
In addition, this modification includes engineering change proposal 4 SilverBlock for the UK and Lot 10 segregable efforts consisting of unknown obsolescence, Class I change assessments and obsolescence monitoring. Work is expected to be completed in March 2022.
The award completes the order for the final four of a total of nine Poseidon MRA1s for the RAF, together with all five for the RNoAF. An order for long-lead items for both the four RAF and five RNoAF aircraft, along with the ten US Navy examples, had been placed on March 5, 2018.
